Comunications

Location: Situated 90km to the north of Castellón in the Baix Maestrat region. The region's parameters are defined with the Font de la Salut canyon in the south and with the river Sénia to the north. From its location up on a hill you can see the Ebro Delta and Montsía sierra.

By Road: From the north on the AP7 take exit 42 (Vinaròs), then take the N232 towards Morella until the turning for Cervera del Maestrat. From the south, leave the AP7 at exit 47 (Castellón Sur), continue for about 3 kilometres towards Benicàssim and then take the CV-10 which will take you directly to Sant Mateu. By Train: To get there by train you first have to go to Vinarós. Trains to Vinarós arrive daily from Valencia, Barcelona and Castellón. For more information about train times see the RENFE web site or call 00 34 96 592 38 50

Leisure

Nature: Beautiful landscape with typical plant and fauna of the Mediterranean: Olive tree's, Carob trees, Almonds trees and orange and lemon trees. It is ideal for mountain sports: Hiking, horseback riding, cycling, golf etc.

Monuments and sites of interest: Calvario, the house of culture, the church of Sant Jaume and 'l'Hostal' (the ruins of an ancient church).

Beaches: Sant Jordi is only 15 minutes from the beaches of Vinaròs, Benicarló and Peñíscola. For more information about beaches, click here.

Gastronomy: Sant Jordi stands out for its Virgin Olive Oil production, a tradition that dates from the Middle Ages. Also well known is the excellent taste of the Maestrat Rabbit. Public Holidays: Sant Jordi (23 April), the Apostle Santiago (25 July). During the Romería (the picking of the Rosemary) on May 1 they make pots of rice in the Sanctuary of the Font de la Salut. If you wish to know more about the public holidays of the area, click here.
