Spain 'offers reduced living costs to expats'

Britons who are thinking of moving abroad have been advised that Spain offers a relatively low cost of living.

However, Saga Travel Money has warned that many expatriates are not taking full advantage of this, as they are still paying over the odds in some areas.

For example, it said that some foreign nationals are choosing to purchase home comforts which need to be imported.

Due to the added cost of shipping goods overseas, a weekly shop can end up costing more than it would in the UK.

Saga Travel Money added that most local people tend to purchase locally-produced goods, which are much cheaper as they have not been transported anywhere.

Lisa Harris, spokesperson for the group, commented: "Your weekly shop can be significantly lower if you choose to live like a local and purchase your fresh produce from the many farmers' markets."

This comes after the Post Office revealed that Spain is the cheapest of all the countries which use the single European currency.
