Spain is still one of the most popular destinations for Britons moving abroad, according to currency group HiFX.
The research also found that the number of Britons making enquiries about moving abroad was up 22 per cent in 2007, compared to the previous year.
In addition to revealing some of the current emigration trends, HiFX indicated that there is a high number of people who have emigrated to Spain or France who bought properties in these countries "as a pre-cursor" to living their full time.
Indeed, a separate survey by the same company suggested that 30 per cent of those who invest in a holiday home have plans to retire or relocate there in future years.
Mark Bodega, director of HiFX, remarked: "A strong pound, rising house prices and good job opportunities abroad tend to be [the] main reasons for Brits to emigrate." He added that different destinations hold different appeal.
Access to Spain has improved recently, with Industrial, Tourism and Trade Ministry research suggesting low-cost flight providers carried a total of 24 million passengers to the country in 2007, EyesonSpain.com reports.
