Retirees still favour Spain

Recent research has found that retirees from the UK are still looking to relocate to Spain for the sun, sand and close proximity to home.

Despite the availability of properties in other established markets and emerging countries, the lure of the Spanish lifestyle remains a powerful draw for Britons looking to live out their retirement in a sunnier clime, according to Saga Travel Money.

Spain was found to be the most popular destination for retirees looking to emigrate, with France coming in second.

Lisa Harris, spokesperson for Saga Travel Money, commented: "The most popular destinations chosen by those retiring from the UK are Spain and France in that order … Climate and health obviously play a large part in this."

A poll conducted by Hot Property found that nearly half of UK residents would prefer to live abroad once they reach retirement, while research by the Institute for Public Policy Research concluded that 3.3 million pensioners from Britain will be living abroad by 2050.ADNFCR-1239-ID-18649741-ADNFCR
