New airport rail link plans unveiled

Plans to extend the light rail network in Valencia are currently being considered, it has been reported.

According to Railway Gazette International, the regional government wants the service to offer passage between the city and the nearby international airport.

The proposals would allow people to travel from the city centre directly to the transport hub in just 16 minutes.

More than 11 km of track would need to be created, along with a new interchange adjacent to Alicante Airport's existing rail terminus.

The regional government in Valencia is hoping that the new network will be up and running within the next three years.

Meanwhile, Spanair has revealed that it will step up the number of domestic flights to and from Alicante.

The carrier said it would increase the amount of services to Barcelona and Madrid by 13 per cent over the next few months.
