Foreign tourism grew 7.5% in the Community of Valencia during the first half of 2008

The increase in foreign tourists who passed through the Community of Valencia during the first six months of this year was 7.5% greater than during the same period of the previous year. In fact, it is one of the largest increases that has taken place during this period in Spain, alongside with Madrid’s.

According to the Spanish Inbound Tourism Survey (Frontur), published yesterday by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Spain received a total of 26.6 million foreign tourists during the first six months of 2008, implying an increase of 2.6% in comparison to the same period in the previous year.In terms of percentages, in June the Community of Valencia experienced an increase of 3.9% regarding the same month during the previous year. Throughout the first six months of 2008, the United Kingdom was the main issuing market for tourists who visited the Community of Valencia.

The number of visitors from this country increased along with those who arrived from France and the Nordic countries.In terms of issuing markets, the United Kingdom continues to hold first place, sending 7.3 million tourists to Spain, 27.5% of the total number of tourists and implying an increase of 1% in comparison to the same period in 2007. Germany holds second place, with 4.7 million tourists and an increase of 2.8%, followed by France and Italy, with 3.6 million and 1.5 million arrivals, respectively.
