A local government official has given details about the new international airport in southern Spain that is set to improve transport links to the Costa Blanca.
Jose Ballesta, regional councillor for public works, housing and transport in Murcia, gave a press conference about the new Corvera Airport this week and revealed that the hub will be served by three access roads to minimise traffic congestion.
Mr Ballesta said that work on the roads would begin in October and is expected to last for ten months, Typically Spanish reports.
The airport currently has a projected yearly traffic volume of three million, he stated, meaning that good access for vehicles will be essential to the smooth running of the operation.
Speaking about the airport more generally, Mr Ballesta stated that the runway will have the capacity to serve 15,000 aircraft in the first year, with the initial passenger capacity currently standing at 1.5 million.
When open, Corvera will provide an alternative to the El Altet Airport in Alicante for holidaymakers and property owners travelling to Costa Blanca destinations such as Torrevieja and Santa Pola.
