Foreign holidaymakers are spending more money in the Costa Blanca region, official figures have revealed.
The Spanish tourism ministry revealed that between January and April this year, visitors spent about 900 million.
This is six per cent up on the amount recorded during the same period of 2007, reports the Typically Spanish website.
Statistics also showed that the average foreign leisure traveller spent 835 in the Costa Blanca - 35 more than the typical Spanish visitor.
As a result, owners of tourist accommodation in the region have praised foreigner's contribution to the sector.
Some had been concerned after recent figures from the Informacion newspaper revealed that tourists are spending less time on holiday in the Costa Blanca.
Whereas many spent ten days in the region this year, most are now staying for about half as long.
This development has been attributed to the fact that people are feeling the pinch from global economic problems.
