Spain still popular with lifestyle buyers

The decline in the Spanish property market is not putting lifestyle buyers off buying a home in the country, it has been claimed.

According to Property-Abroad, the impact of the credit crunch has only dented the appeal of Spain among those who are buying for investment purposes.

Les Calvert, director of the company, said these people are shunning the Spanish market and opting for emerging markets outside Europe instead.

However, he believes the appeal of the country among second home buyers is unlikely to be hit by global financial problems.

Mr Calvert commented: "Your average man on the street [has] already made [his] decision and buying a property in that country is not going to be hugely affected by what is going on in the economy."

He added that many of the people who are buying in Spain at the moment are those who want a holiday home in the country or a full-time residence outside the UK.

Shelter Offshore recently highlighted Spain as a good destination for foreign property buyers.

According to the website, the country offers a number of strong fundamentals, including accessibility, a modern infrastructure and a good climate.
