Spain popular with Irish holidaymakers

Consumers from the Republic of Ireland are increasingly booking trips to places such as Spain, a holiday provider has said.

According to Budget Travel, there has been a surge in the number of sales during the last two weeks.

Clem Walshe, marketing manager at the company, said established destinations in Spain are proving to be particularly popular.

Speaking to the Sunday Business Post, he highlighted the Costa del Sol as one major hotspot of activity, especially with young people and couples.

Meanwhile, Tanya Airey of Sunway Travel has said people will not let the impact of the credit crunch ruin their holiday plans.

She commented: "‘Despite the downturn, the luxury people won't do without is a sun holiday."

According to government data, more than 15 million people took a holiday in Spain between January and April 2008, reports the Typically Spanish website.
