Spain is the most popular country among overseas property buyers in the UK, new figures have revealed.
According to Zurich Private Clients, more than a quarter of Britons with a second home abroad own a residence in the country.
This puts it just ahead of other European nations such as France, reports the Associated Press.
Zurich Private Clients also found that owning a second home is becoming more and more popular among Britons.
Nick Brabham, spokesperson for Zurich Private Clients, commented: "There has been a steady rise in the number of customers with second homes, either in the UK or abroad."
However, he added that holiday home owners need to make sure they are fully insured, as their properties could contain thousands of pounds worth of personal goods.
This comes after Spain was included in Jet-to-Let magazine's list of the top ten investment hotspots for 2008.
