Budget airline easyJet has confirmed that direct flights between Manchester Airport and Alicante will begin operating this year.
According to the carrier, the holiday resort is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain.
Since services from other UK airports have been very successful, it has decided to offer direct flights from Manchester for the very first time.
Tim McDermott, director of aviation at Manchester Airport, said the announcement has created a "fantastic buzz" at the transport hub.
He commented: "We're delighted that easyJet is already boosting its destinations from Manchester Airport with the announcement of this new Alicante route."
Mr McDermott added that he is expecting flights to the Spanish resort to be in very high demand.
The service will run four times a week and commence operations at the end of September.
This comes after the news that flights between Norwich International Airport and Alicante will be launched by LTE International Airways later this year.
