The market for international property purchases remains healthy in the UK at the beginning of 2008, an industry group has stated.
According to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), the demand for overseas property is still very strong among British citizens, with this popularity driven by the "diversity" of the UK buyer.
Experts at NAEA International incorporating the Federation of Overseas Property Developers, Agents and Consultants said that established foreign property markets have seen a "consistent" level of interest from British people over the last 12 months, with Spain continuing to lead the way.
"British buyers are still in love with the idea of a place on the Costas," said Robin Haynes of Foreign Currency Direct, a currency services firm.
He added: "Spain remains the number one destination according to enquiries … we sent more payments to Spain in 2007 than in 2006."
