Bancaja Habitat goes green

Bancaja Habitat is the only Valencian company that has signed the Bali Declaration against climate change. This signature, according to the business, “reaffirms its commitment to protect the environment and its investment in sustainable practices.” The goal of this new declaration is to encourage different governments to take concrete action that will guarantee a comprehensive plan of action for the year 2012, when the Kyoto Protocol expires.

The document signed by Bancaja Habitat, which also features the signatures of a total of 150 large companies from all over the world – 16 of which are Spanish – assures that “scientific evidence is incontestable, and climate change represents one of the most serious social, environmental and economic risks demanding an immediate global solution.” In order to combat this threat, the declaration proposes the “creation of a legal framework for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions,” as well as a clear and resolute push for “investments in low-Carbon technology,” highlighting that “the protection of the environment also offers business opportunities.”

The businesses whose signatures are on the declaration, among which are E.On, Kodak, Nestlé, DuPont and British Airways, hope to propel the creation of an international framework that ensures a global agreement to search for remedies for climate change beginning in 2012, the year in which the Kyoto Protocol expires. The declaration comes in part as the result of the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry, along with the Prince of Wales’ United Kingdom Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change, and it represents an unprecedented call-to-action by the corporate world.
