Airport announces expansion plans

An airport in the UK has revealed that it intends to double its capacity within the next seven years.

Norwich International Airport said it hopes to boost annual passenger numbers from 600,000 to about 1.5 million by 2015.

As part of the expansion, new flights between the Norfolk-based transport hub and Spain will be introduced.

This should help to open up the country to prospective holidaymakers, second home buyers and investors in the region.

Richard Jenner, managing director of the airport, told the Norwich Evening News: "Our passenger projections are reasonable and possibly even conservative."

Meanwhile, Southampton Airport has revealed that a record number of people have passed through its doors during the year to date.

The transport hub, which offers connections with places such as Alicante and Malaga, serviced more than 957,000 passengers between January and June this year.
