The recent growth of low-cost airlines is improving access to Spain for many foreign visitors, new figures have revealed.
According to data from the Industrial, Tourism and Trade Ministry, low-cost flight providers brought 24 million passengers to Spain in 2007, representing an increase of 34 per cent on the previous year.
The statistics show that 60 per cent of people arriving in Andalucia now do so via low-cost airlines, EyeonSpain.com reports.
Irish carrier Ryanair was found to be the leading supplier of visitors to the country, bringing 5.4 million travellers to Spain last year, while easyJet was in second place with 4.2 million.
Figures from the Spanish Airports Authority show that passenger numbers at Malaga Airport saw an increase of 3.9 per cent last year..
The opening of British Airways' new Terminal 5 at London Heathrow Airport in March will also improve travel connections to southern Spain, the Telegraph reported recently.
